Intrapericardial delivery of visible microcapsules containing stem cells using xfm (x-ray fused with magnetic resonance imaging)

چکیده
Introduction Previously, we have demonstrated a technique to enhance survival of transplanted cells using XFM-visible microcapsules. However, theoretical concerns exist about the induction of arrhythmias if microcapsules are delivered to the heart by transendocardial injection. Delivery of these microcapsules to the pericardial space may provide an alternative approach with less potential for arrhythmia. Pericardial approaches to the epicardium have been used for the delivery of cardioactive drugs, cardiac ablation techniques and the implantation of cardiac pacemakers. However, there are no reports involving the utilization of the pericardial space for stem cell delivery.

XFM-guided delivery of imaging-visible human mesenchymal stem cells into the pericardial space in a porcine model
Background Transmyocardial delivery of stem cells in the setting of acute myocardial ischemia has shown promise to prevent adverse ventricular remodeling1. However, the efficacy is limited by poor cell retention and low survival rates, even for autologous cells. Intrapericardial delivery of microencapsulated stem cells may offer a local and minimally invasive route to enhance cell survival and ...
متن کاملCT and quantitative 19F MRI tracking of encapsulated mesenchymal stem cells in a peripheral arterial disease rabbit model
Background Nearly 12% of Americans suffer from peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and many are not eligible for conventional angioplasty or surgical bypass. Microencapsulated stem cell (SC) therapy offers a novel means to transplant allogeneic SCs to avoid immunorejection and enable image tracking. However, quantitative evaluation of capsule fate is elusive. Here we explore c-arm CT and 19F-MRI ...
متن کاملX-ray fused with magnetic resonance imaging (XFM) to target endomyocardial injections: validation in a swine model of myocardial infarction.
BACKGROUND Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) permits 3-dimensional (3D) cardiac imaging with high soft tissue contrast. X-ray fluoroscopy provides high-resolution, 2-dimensional (2D) projection imaging. We have developed real-time x-ray fused with MRI (XFM) to guide invasive procedures that combines the best features of both imaging modalities. We tested the accuracy of XFM using external fiduci...
متن کاملUsing C-Arm X-Ray Imaging to Guide Local Reporter Probe Delivery for Tracking Stem Cell Engraftment
Poor cell survival and difficulties with visualization of cell delivery are major problems with current cell transplantation methods. To protect cells from early destruction, microencapsulation methods have been developed. The addition of a contrast agent to the microcapsule also could enable tracking by MR, ultrasound, and X-ray imaging. However, determining the cell viability within the micro...
متن کاملX-ray Fused With Magnetic Resonance Imaging to Guide Endomyocardial Biopsy of a Right Ventricular Mass.
BACKGROUND A patient with a history of cancer in remission and congestive heart failure with no acute symptoms presented for a follow-up echocardiogram. The scan revealed a new echodense mass filling his right ventricular apex. An endomyocardial biopsy guided by x-ray fused with magnetic resonance (MR) imaging (XFM) was performed. This case report outlines the steps of XFM image preparation inv...
